Theatre Reviews from London Town

Ah yes, Melbourne, we have excellent theatre over here too!! True story - some of it is even co-written by Australians!

I've finally gotten around to reviewing some stuff.

Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre was fabulous. I had some conflicted opinions on just how fabulous thanks to my adoration of the book but it did win me over. This one is going completely gangbusters and taking slews of nominations and probably will tour over to you, lovely Melbourne. If so - you must see it!!

Review of The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar - we queued up from before 8am to get day tickets and it was totally worth it! It's closed now but hopefully it will tour and there will be a chance to see it in the future.

In other news Spring is springing and I am gearing up to sort photos so there should be plenty more activity on this blog (than there has been for ages).

Missing you.

Tim Tams.

Dearest Melbourne,

So this past month or so has been incredibly busy and eventful - not the least because I became an auntie (squee!); had visitors from Melbourne; caught up with people; broke in new boots; did the whole Christmas with the family thing; explored London on foot; handed in a whopping essay; lugged luggage; met some ducks; got new jeans; wrote a massive folio and discovered that 2012 is indeed going to be as epic as the font on the movie poster suggested.

I also ate almost an entire packet of tim tams.

Comfort food is an interesting thing - and not the focus of this post, at somepoint in my life I may decide it is worth articulating and understanding my relationship with cake - but comfort food imported from THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD is another thing all together. Living in Melbourne I didn't eat very many Tim Tams at all, sure I liked them but the packets are big for one and good for sharing so I never, ever ate as many as I did this time. They lasted two days and I ate the last couple for breakfast.

And you know what they never tasted so good.

Thanks to the lovlies that lead me to the Australia Shop - Covent Garden is totally the place to source so many wonderful treats.

So, Melbourne I sort of ate you in someways, and you tasted as lovely as you actually are.

Now back to the folio and my (for now) tim-tam-less existance!

Winter Wonder.

Dear Melbourne,

Today is the first day of summer as I was reminded by the facebook update from the University of Melbourne. HA! Tell that to Norwich. Tell that to the Northern Hemisphere! For half the world it is the first day of winter. So much for summer vacation plans Unimelbs, it's all about rugging up and sipping on mulled wine over here.

It's terribly confusing. Not as confusing as it might have been last year when there had already been a lot of snow by the start of December. But still, my head can't get around it and I have to conciously have a 'season awareness' or the opposite thing comes out frequently in conversation, especially when people are talking about months. This is amusing of course, but a little impractical.

Anyways for the first time in many years I have an Advent Calendar! It's really rather adorable. One window open and 24 to go.

White Wine in The Sun (Tim Minchin)

So I cried today but in the best way you can:

It's so very beautiful and there is a truth to it that kicks you right in the chest.
